Work the Trend – 70s Glam!

Get ready to party in style this season with our guide to working the latest trend!

Work the Trend - 70s Glam, look 1

Look 1 – laid-back party girl!

The 70s revival is well and truly here, and we can’t think of a better way to get stylish this Summer than by kitting out our wardrobes with all things 70s! The current trend is for bright colours and bold, funky designs, and 70s shapes have burst onto the scene as well.

Don’t be afraid to go a little psychedelic with your outfits this season. Miniskirts were all the rage in the 70s, but the Maxi length was also a hit, and it’s the Maxi Dress that’s taking the high street by storm right now. Pair an eye-catching Maxi Dress like this multi zigzag bandeau maxi dress from Dorothy Perkins with monochrome accessories and colourful jewellery. We love this versatile imitation leather belt from H&M – tassels are right on trend at the moment, so this is the perfect way to update a 70s look. And why not add some wow factor to your outfit with some retro accessories like these fantastic Round sunglasses from H&M… oh so 70s! This is a trend you can definitely have some fun with.

Our favourite jewellery in keeping with the 70s trend has to be the colourful, symbolic Chakra Bracelets in Gold from Daisy. There’s a colour for every outfit, and the spiritual symbolism of the seven Chakras (plus the Aura, Daisy’s eighth Chakra) lets you wear your personality on your wrist! Gold jewellery is definitely making a comeback, and works perfectly with the warm colours in this dress. Alex Monroe’s bumblebee necklace is our must-have piece for glamming up your Maxi Dresses.

Work the Trend - 70s Glam, look 2

Look 2 – ready for anything!

There are some trends that jump straight to mind when the 70s are mentioned. We’re thinking flares and platforms! Designers have put a modern twist on the classic, flared trouser shape with wide-legged, high-waisted trousers which we can’t get enough of. Monsoon’s ‘Nikki’ wide leg trousers look great paired with colourful, patterned tops like this red paisley print gypsy top from River Island. And of course you can’t go 70s without at least one pair of wedges! Our favourite are these gorgeous orange wedges from New Look, a steal at £19.99.

We’ve kept with the Gold jewellery theme for this look, choosing simple, geometric designs and monochrome colours. Azuni’s friendship bracelets in Gold come in three different colours to match your favourite 70s outfit, and for a bit of glamour we’ve added this fantastic Bali Bubble Ring from Hot Diamonds and a chic pair of earrings from Lucas Jack.

So if the groovy 70s are your thing, you’re in luck this season. And when you’re putting together your favourite ‘far out’ ensemble, don’t forget to have fun and be daring!

Work the Trend – Boho Chic

Relax your way into style with our guide to working this Summer’s Boho Chic trend

Work the Trend - Boho Chic

The ‘boho chic’ vogue is back in the limelight this season. That laid-back bohemian trendiness, made so popular by style icon Sienna Miller, has burst back onto the high street – just in time for Summer! The boho chic look is just perfect for Summer festivals, and those lazy afternoons spent beside the BBQ, so here’s the fabulous guide to going boho!

Going boho chic isn’t just about bagging the latest maxi dress. There’s a huge array of bohemian influenced outfits to choose from, and choosing the right accessories is key – the right shoes, scarves and jewellery can really add the ‘chic‘ to your ‘boho‘!

To get started, look out for all things floaty (be it blouses, trousers, jumpsuits or skirts), embroidered or furry! Floaty maxi skirts like this Cream Lace Maxi Skirt from Dorothy Perkins are all the rage right now, and make a versatile, staple piece for your boho wardrobe. Pair with your favourite casually glamorous tops – we love this Rust Broderie Lace Trim Vest from Topshop (Lace trims are everywhere right now – we’ve seen them on boots, clothes and bags!)

A few good rules of thumb when looking for accessories:

(1) Mix up your patterns and shades. Trollbeads’ Limited Edition Kimono Kit is a great example of how to combine different colours and designs and stay on-trend. You can also create some fantastic looks by mixing and matching patterned scarves, like this fantastic, limited edition Vintage Flower Silk Scarf from Miss Selfridge.

(2) Wear natural materials, and lots of them!  Natural materials complement bohemian outfits perfectly. Think Faux-Leather sandals, Semi-Precious Stones and wooden jewellery. The Branch’s collection of handcrafted wooden jewellery works its magic best when paired up with a funky peasant skirt or a furry gilet! And look out for the gorgeous trend-of-the-minute wrap bracelets from Chan Luu, in varying Semi-Precious Stones – the ultimate in laid-back, luxury designer jewellery.

(3) Layer friendship bracelets. Layer, layer, layer! Layering up friendship-style bracelets isn’t just for groovy festival goers, it’s the latest fashion craze. And with so many designers tempting us with their fresh interpretations of the friendship bracelet, it’s a good job too! Fabulous favourites are Azuni’s message bracelets and Daisy’s ever popular Chakra Bracelets, seen adoring the arms of such lovely celebs as Cheryl Cole and boho queen Sienna Miller.

The key to working the boho chic trend is to have fun with it – mix and match, go for bold combos and patterns, and let your personality shape your style. What are your boho chic tips?

Work the Trend – Colour Blocking

Work the Colour Blocking trend this Spring!Things get bright and beautiful this season as we show you how to work the colour blocking trend!

This spring, it’s all about turning up the volume and blasting away the last of those winter blues with vibrant colours and bold combinations. Colour Blocking has been all over the runways, and we want to show you just how easy it is to wear the look.

The first step to successful colour blocking? Don’t be afraid! Bright colours can be a little daunting, so how about easing your way into it with a pair of neon shoes like these gorgeous pink Millie Bow Slingbacks from Phase 8, £99, or try this lemon yellow Hobo Shoulder Bag from Radley, £195. Team with great accessories in beautiful shades – this funky Minty Ring by Lola Rose, £40, is really easy to wear and adds a splash of sunshine to any outfit!

Break up bold colour choices with delicate texturing like the ruffles on this Monsoon Laura Frill Blouse, £45, or the pleats on this Marisol Skirt from Joules, £39. The fresh, funky new collection from Thomas Sabo has a great range of jewellery charms to brighten up your day, like this adorable little hummingbird. Alternatively, you could pick up on a signature colour with these fab Night-Time Drop Earrings from Swarovski, £56.

Last but not least, colour blocking is all about having fun, and what better way than with one of our newest designers Jackie Brazil! Her wonderfully zany bangles and bracelets are made from multi-coloured Resin and will go with any outfit you like – a great way to welcome in the summer! They’ll be hitting our website very soon, so keep an eye out for her distinctive, playful designs.

It’s all about Friendship Bracelets this season!

The Friendship Bracelet gets a new lease of life this season, as designers present their fresh takes on this traditional gift with a sentimental twist.

Designer Friendship Bracelets from Azuni, perfect for gifts

Designer Friendship Bracelets from Azuni, from £79

Friendship Bracelets are taking the fashion world by storm this Spring,  and about time too! I still remember the fun I had making my own friendship bracelets for my friends and family when I was younger… being homemade they never lasted very long, but it always put a smile on someone’s face to receive a gift that is traditionally symbolic of friendship.

While friendship bracelets are traditionally handmade, it’s fantastic to see the trend for friendship-style bracelets spreading to the world of designer jewellery! The custom for the receiver of a friendship bracelet is to wear it constantly until the knots wear through – to remove it before then is supposed to be a sign that the friendship is over. But it’s not always practical to wear a bracelet all the time, especially as it starts to wear out! The trend for designer friendship bracelets means you can give something a gift with the same symbolic meaning, which they can treasure forever.

At fabulous we’re delighted to be stocking the brand new designer friendship bracelets from one of our favourite, established designers, Azuni. Azuni have updated the traditional friendship bracelet by inscribing special messages onto Sterling Silver and 18ct Gold Vermeil plates, elegantly hung from Silk cord in three gorgeous colours.
