As Her Majesty The Queen opened the Royal Fabergé exhibition last week, there’s another reason why royal style is on everyone’s lips this season!
So far 2011 has been a right royal year! With two of her grand-children tying the knot in the last few months, we’d have thought the Queen would be looking forward to taking a rest – but instead, this Summer, Buckingham Palace’s State Rooms will be open to the public (although we don’t think Her Majesty will be guiding the tours!) As part of the Summer Opening a special exhibition of the royal family’s extensive Fabergé collection is taking place.
The Royal Fabergé exhibition includes over 100 masterpieces by Peter Carl Fabergé, the greatest Russian jeweller and goldsmith of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and explores how six successive generations of the British Royal Family, from Queen Victoria to Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, have shaped the finest collection of Fabergé in the world – unparalleled in size, range and quality.
The success of Fabergé’s business was inextricably linked to the patronage of the Romanov dynasty and the close ties between the British, Danish and Russian royal families, who often exchanged works by Fabergé as personal gifts. The exhibition includes a number of works on public display for the first time.
Fabergé is most famous for the decorative eggs he created for the Russian Tsars; the designs of which were opulent and stunning. The vast majority of his designs were never repeated, and most pieces were made entirely by hand. Recently there has been a renewal of interest in Fabergé’s one of a kind pieces, especially with this Summer’s exhibition showcasing the priceless items. The exquisite and delicate works have also been revived by the jewellery brand Alfabergé, who owns some of Fabergé’s original designs, and have created new ones inspired by his style, to produce delicate Fabergé influenced jewellery.
Alfaberge‘s range of charm pendants and necklaces retains the lavish feel and intricate detailing of Fabergé’s work, but in miniature form to produce truly dazzling pieces of jewellery. Beautiful enamel work combined with Gold and embellished with Swarovski crystals gives these timeless and elegant pieces a contemporary edge.
The jewellery is perfect for special occasions, either as a gift for a loved one – or for yourself!! The pendants are especially versatile as they can be attached to any type of chain, and will add an imperial, sophisticated edge to any outfit!
However, we can’t promise they will make you the next Kate Middleton…
