Spring Has Sprung!

Spring is here! Well, almost. The cold might be adamant on sticking around for a bit longer but that doesn’t mean we can’t brighten up our wardrobe with a new Spring Summer style, and with all our brand new collections how can we resist!
spring catalogue

We are really excited to share our latest spring collections from some of our favourite designers and even some brand new ones! Whilst admiring the new season trends hitting the catwalk of late, we have been eager to wear our sunnies and rush into our favourite stores to buy this season’s must have skirts, maxi’s and fedoras in anticipation of the sunshine, and frankly we can’t wait to get out of our winter boots and stick on some sandals! But whilst we patiently wait for the weather to turn around, accessorise we can do! It’s always the right time to add a splash of colour or texture with a statement piece of designer jewellery!

To make it easier to see what’s on-trend this season in fashion as well as jewellery, we have highlighted the four key trends here & on our website where you can shop your favourite pieces spotted in our new spring catalogue and many more fab new designs! We also have some great interviews in our Designer Lounge from many of our designers including the inspiration behind Joanna Dahdah’s Muse collection for Jersey Pearl, as well as a look through Christina Lihn’s sketchbook that inspired her romantic collection of Blossom jewellery! What’s more, we have a gift guide for all occasions to help you find the perfect pressie for your loved ones as well as free delivery and gift wrap on all UK orders, so there has never been a better time to shop online with fabulous!

Gold Rush

There really is a Gold Rush this season, as many of our favourite designers add the warmth of Gold into their collections. We have fallen in love with the new Thomas Sabo collection which has used Yellow and Rose Gold in their Sterling Silver collection for the first time. Some of their iconic designs have been given a glamorous make over with gold plating and the popular Special Addition collection has combined these gold shades with vivid Turquoise for a beautiful combination.

Brand new to fabulous, Nikki Lissoni has us all excited here with their interchangeable coins that make changing the look of your necklace so easy and stylish! This collection is fun and extremely versatile with a collection of small and large coins and different chain lengths, all available in Rose Gold, Yellow Gold and Silver. Lots of the fab girls are mixing their Silver chains with Rose Gold coins for a trendy combination! Even more, if you are a TOWIE fan, Lauren Pope is the face of this designer and she is visiting our Bath store very soon! (Check out our events page for details!) Once you have started your Nikki Lissoni collection, you can easily choose your next addition online where you can view the collection altogether (or save it to your wishlist for someone else to treat you!) Although as the fab team has discovered, it does take some time to decide which one is your favourite!!

Spring has sprung

Jersey Pearl is another new designer to fabulous that we are delighted to introduce. This classic and elegant collection has captured the 1920’s era and has helped us rediscover our love for Pearls! Pastel shades and feminine looks are a massive trend this season and Lola Rose has captured this perfectly with their latest pieces. We think the highlight of the new Lola Rose collection are the colours of Pastel Blue and Capri Green which are the ideal shades to compliment a new season wardrobe.

Gift Guide for October

Birthstone

Opal is the official birthstone for the month of October and is considered one of the most beautiful of all semi-precious stones thanks to it’s glistening rainbow colours that shine from within the stone. Historically, the Opal was worn for protection and to ward of evil, whereby it was highly regarded for its healing properties. This beautiful gem is regarded as a symbol of hope, purity and faithfulness, making this stone a truly romantic gift. Traditionally, the Opal is also given as a gift to mark a 14th or 18th wedding anniversary. An alternative birthstone for October is Pink Tourmaline, known as the creative ‘Teller Stone’; as it is believed to increase the creative process of its wearer and help distinguish between good and bad. Pink varieties of Tourmaline range in colour from pastel pink to ruby red, a gorgeous and feminine alternative to the classic Opal.

Thomas Sabo’s Freshwater Pearl bracelet is £51.90, and features a gorgeous pink Tourmaline Charm. It has an adjustable love knot from 16.5cm to 22cm for a versatile fit that will fit most wrists, making a beautiful and girly gift for birthdays this month. For jewellery with a more classic look, Nomination’s White Opal with a Sliver Frill charm will add sophistication and vintage style to any Nomination bracelet, whilst the heart shaped White Opal charm is cute and romantic! Spinning jewellery have a large selection of gorgeous Sterling Silver rings that will make a lovely gift this month and feature a stunning pink Tourmaline birthstone ring for £49.00.

Zodiac
Another way to add a personal edge to a birthday this month is by acknowledging a zodiac sign. Someone born between the 23rd September and 22nd October is a Libra, whilst someone born between 23rd October and 21st November is a Scorpio. Pandora, Nomination and Thomas Sabo have a variety of charms featuring the Zodiac signs that make a fun addition to any collection. The Sterling Silver Libra charm from Thomas Sabo depicting the scales is £39.95 and would look great alongside the pink birthstone.

Autumn/Winter
The new season has brought some fabulous new collections from Lola Rose, Swarovski, Pandora and Pure Attraction to name just a few, all crafted to compliment this seasons winter textures and warm autumn colours from orange and honeys, to soft browns and blacks. Lola Rose’s statement pieces in teal, tangerine and blacks are bright and eye-catching and really capture the autumnal palette, whilst Pandora’s newest collection has taken inspiration from the runway and features stunning pieces from rings to earrings that feature a gorgeous Rhodolite garnet, as well as sparkling Black, Red and Purple Murano Glass Charms for a gothic edge. Rose Gold is the perfect complimentary shade this season which can be seen sparkling in Pure Attraction and is the perfect plating for a statement watch from BCBG and ToyWatch.

                                            Romance
For a romantic gift this month, choose from the sparkling Diamonfire collection that is ‘Inspired by Diamonds’ and features beautiful sets of rings, earrings and necklaces that are an affordable alternative to diamond jewellery. Sphere of Life, Linda Macdonald and Swarovski also offer romantic pieces in Silver and Gold with heart pendants and sentimental messages to help you add a touch of emotion and meaning to your gift.

This Summer fabulous will be hosting two lovely afternoons combining fine food and company with a spot of retail therapy! The Garden Parties are a great opportunity to browse and shop brand new and extended collections by fabulous’ most popular designers as well as meet some of the designers themselves!

Jo Stroud, owner of fabulous, describes the Summer Garden Party as, “a lovely relaxed event perfect to share with your girlfriends or work colleagues, or as a treat for a special someone. For many years we have hosted a Summer Garden Party for our store in Royal Leamington Spa at Mallory Court Hotel, which has always proved popular; and I’m very much looking forward to sharing our latest collections with the fabulous ladies of Bath at our first Garden Party at The Bath Priory, as it’s a beautiful location with a superb restaurant”.

Collections will include Lola Rose, the “go-to” brand for Summer with pieces in brightly coloured semi-precious stones and modern yet feminine designs. Also Daisy Jewellery will be showcased, a brand which has a growing fan base due to its delicate designs in 24carat Gold plate and its Chakra range which promotes well-being.

The Next Big Thing!

It’s always important for us at fabulous to make sure we have our finger on the fashion pulse – so Laura from the Bath store updates us on what jewellery we should be wearing this season!

I recently had the chance to visit the NEC’s Jewellery Show at Spring Fair, which gave me the opportunity to look out for the Next Big Thing in jewellery!

There were a few stand out themes I spotted at the show, including the sheer amount of gold jewellery on display. After talking to the various brand managers they informed me that gold is becoming much more popular. Clogau in particular are a Welsh brand which uses elements of Welsh gold in their pieces, interestingly they are also linked to the Royal Family as Kate Middleton’s wedding band incorporates Welsh gold. This theme of royalty and ‘British-ness’ was very apparent during the show due to the upcoming jubilee and Olympics. Sphere of Life, Nomination and Pandora have all made reference to this in their new collections.

However, for me the Next Big Thing is jewellery inspired by different eras. Lola Rose for example introduced the use of bright purples, oranges and yellows in their collection which is very reminiscent of the 1960s. Also they had a lovely black cuff which was very art deco inspired! Swarovski also went for the 60s look – their new collection is called Sweet Sixties and includes big statement pieces and bold shapes. During the catwalk show the music was very 60s and the styling featured Mod-type shirts and monochrome. Jersey Pearl was another brand which used the 1920’s as inspiration, celebrating the elegant designs of a decade which saw pearls first come to the masses.

If you would like to get a closer look at jewellery through the decades then make sure you come along to the Girls’ Night Out fashion shows in March at either Leamington or Solihull!

And here’s some shots from the Catwalk Show we saw….

Get Ready for the New Season!

After visiting The Jewellery Show at Spring Fair and Pure London exhibitions, fabulous gives you a run down of the latest jewellery trends….

The Bigger The Better!

All the fashion glossies have focussed on the trend for over sized earrings and necklaces, and you couldn’t miss them at the fairs we visited! Swarovski are definitely leading the way, and we were privileged enough to have a sneaky look at their “show” collection, which featured huge bauble shaped necklaces in summery coral colours. Oversized pearls were also prevalent and are a nod to this confident trend while maintaining a subtle look! Chunky cuffs and belcher link bracelets were part of a lot of desginers’ new collections too.

Gold

Yellow gold looks set to be headlining this Summer’s jewellery trends. It has been creeping up on us for a while, and  its popularity has increased despite the rise in gold prices. In order to keep costs down, designers are using gold plated materials, such as Daisy who use 24carat gold plate. Pieces plated in real gold look much more expensive that gold coloured metals used in fashion jewellery and the colour will really pop against your colourful Summer outfits. Rose gold is also proving to be more and more popular as does mixing gold colours with silver.

Eras

Designers have taken their inspiration for the new season from retro styling, and lots of pieces seemed to be throwbacks to the 1960s especially. Think optic shapes, bubble faced watches, and primary colours for long pendants and big rings. The geometric designs of the roaring 20s popped up at designers from Lucas Jack to Lola Rose, with simples lines and angular shapes in bright colours. Look out for our Girls’ Night Out fashion shows with the theme ‘Decades’ taking place in March!

Matte Finish

This was probably the most striking trend, which saw satin finish metals and matte semi-precious stones used to create chic and eye catching pieces. At Azuni beads made from lava rock have been used, which creates a very interesting combination next to the gold nuggets on their popular dainty bracelets. Plus, as part of his latest jewellery collection, Thomas Sabo has introduced a number of charms in a matte black finish, which have a gothic look. Pair these matte styles with Summer brights, as seen on the brand new Tresor Paris bracelets, to help them stand out even more!

Work the Trend – Boho Chic

Relax your way into style with our guide to working this Summer’s Boho Chic trend

Work the Trend - Boho Chic

The ‘boho chic’ vogue is back in the limelight this season. That laid-back bohemian trendiness, made so popular by style icon Sienna Miller, has burst back onto the high street – just in time for Summer! The boho chic look is just perfect for Summer festivals, and those lazy afternoons spent beside the BBQ, so here’s the fabulous guide to going boho!

Going boho chic isn’t just about bagging the latest maxi dress. There’s a huge array of bohemian influenced outfits to choose from, and choosing the right accessories is key – the right shoes, scarves and jewellery can really add the ‘chic‘ to your ‘boho‘!

To get started, look out for all things floaty (be it blouses, trousers, jumpsuits or skirts), embroidered or furry! Floaty maxi skirts like this Cream Lace Maxi Skirt from Dorothy Perkins are all the rage right now, and make a versatile, staple piece for your boho wardrobe. Pair with your favourite casually glamorous tops – we love this Rust Broderie Lace Trim Vest from Topshop (Lace trims are everywhere right now – we’ve seen them on boots, clothes and bags!)

A few good rules of thumb when looking for accessories:

(1) Mix up your patterns and shades. Trollbeads’ Limited Edition Kimono Kit is a great example of how to combine different colours and designs and stay on-trend. You can also create some fantastic looks by mixing and matching patterned scarves, like this fantastic, limited edition Vintage Flower Silk Scarf from Miss Selfridge.

(2) Wear natural materials, and lots of them!  Natural materials complement bohemian outfits perfectly. Think Faux-Leather sandals, Semi-Precious Stones and wooden jewellery. The Branch’s collection of handcrafted wooden jewellery works its magic best when paired up with a funky peasant skirt or a furry gilet! And look out for the gorgeous trend-of-the-minute wrap bracelets from Chan Luu, in varying Semi-Precious Stones – the ultimate in laid-back, luxury designer jewellery.

(3) Layer friendship bracelets. Layer, layer, layer! Layering up friendship-style bracelets isn’t just for groovy festival goers, it’s the latest fashion craze. And with so many designers tempting us with their fresh interpretations of the friendship bracelet, it’s a good job too! Fabulous favourites are Azuni’s message bracelets and Daisy’s ever popular Chakra Bracelets, seen adoring the arms of such lovely celebs as Cheryl Cole and boho queen Sienna Miller.

The key to working the boho chic trend is to have fun with it – mix and match, go for bold combos and patterns, and let your personality shape your style. What are your boho chic tips?
