Festival Fashion 2013: Coachella

It’s the first big festival of the season and always one to attract a host of beautiful, tanned celebrities. Coachella showcases the trends of the coming festival season, as well as great inspiration for holiday accesorries!

Since Sienna Miller, festival fashion was all about the boho look; earthy tones, natural fabrics, 70′s influence and slouchy boots – but jet off to Cali in 2013 and it’s clear there’s a new look in town. With hints of neon and stacks of jewellery, the 90′s is back, folk is out and dance is in!

Where will you be this Christmas? In Hexham, Northumberland with my family including my nephew Jake who’s nearly two and the cutest little man ever! It’s my hometown, so there’ll be lots of old friends kicking about too.

What do you love most about Christmas? Everything, it’s my favourite time of year by far and I start getting excited about it in October. Fairy lights, cold crisp nights, choosing presents for everyone, the tree, decorations, Christmas jumpers, great films, seeing family and friends and saying Merry Christmas to strangers.

What else would you like to find under the tree? I like getting things that I wouldn’t justify buying myself, like really good shampoo and conditioner, I love the Clynol range. Perfume is always on my list and I can’t stray from Coco Chanel. I made a pinterest board of my wish list this year – that’s how obsessed with Christmas I am!

Smell of Christmas: Frankincense and Myrrh candles from Marks and Spencer, they remind me of home and the smell of Christmas trees is the best.

Taste of Christmas: Cava, chocolate and turkey, in no particular order.

Sounds of Christmas: Dad plays ‘Feed the World’ every Christmas morning, it’s a bit of a depressing start to the day, but it’s tradition and you can’t beat The Pogues, Fairytale of New York!

What do you love most about Christmas? I have a big family so this is the time of year we can all get together and see each other, that for me is the best time.

Smell of Christmas: Definitely cant wait to smell my Mum and Dads cooking and the fire my Dad loves to make. I don’t mind the smell of mulled wine either!

Happy Halloween!

The spookiest time of the year is upon us as the days get shorter, darker and colder! Ghosts and ghouls and things that go bump in the night, witches, black cats, pumpkins, and of course scary movies (Paranormal Activity 4 anyone!?) can mean only one thing, Halloween! 

Halloween originates from the ancient Celtic Samhain festival that marks the end of the summer and celebrates the final harvest and the onset of winter during October 31st and 2nd November. The eve of November is regarded as the most magical time during this period, known today as Halloween. The Celts believed that during this magical time, the divide between the living and the dead lifted during Samhain leaving ghosts and evil spirits to roam the earth. From this has come today’s iconic Halloween symbol’s of ghosts and ghouls, witches and black cats! It was a common Celtic belief that black cats were humans who had been changed as punishment for their evil deeds. As protection from these evil spirits, large bonfires were built for protection to ward off the dead.

The tradition of trick-or-treating also originates from the Samhain festival where on 2nd November, All Souls Day, the poor would walk from village to village begging for square pieces of bread known as ‘soul cakes’ in exchange for their promise to pray for the family’s dead relatives. This practice was later taken up by children who would visit the houses nearby and be given food and money, which in modern day means lot and lots of sweets!

ChloBo ‘After Dark’ Collection

“As the city’s lights switch on at dusk, the place becomes a twinkling kingdom and the glitz and glam come out to play. It was whilst having dinner in a restaurant called 360, high above the rooftops with the stunning city below, that I thought of the name for this collection – After Dark!” Chloe Moss

The gorgeous After Dark collection from ChloBo was inspired by Chloe’s trip to Istanbul and its sparkly additions are the perfect pieces to compliment the metallic trends for A/W 2012.

Featuring Haematite and Pyrite stones combined with symbols of protection and love, this collection is simply stunning and a must have addition to your stack this season!

As with ChloBo’s other collections, the stones and symbols in After Dark have been chosen carefully with regard to their symbolism. Haematite is a calming stone that is said to balance out emotions and energies, whilst Pyrite’s resemblance to Gold made it a traditional symbol for money and good luck. These are comprised with Sterling Silver and Rhodium plating, chosen to enhance the sparkle of the semi precious stones! The Hamsa Hand, Peace Sign and Cross symbols are used in this collection which have become recognisable ChloBo charms. The Hamsa Hand is a protective sign that is said to bring happiness, health and good fortune; the Peace sign is a symbol of love and tranquillity; and the Cross is worn for protection and to ward off evil.

It’s a new month, with which brings the arrival of new birthdays, anniversaries, milestones and other celebrations. Any excuse to get out our party shoes and wear our favourite designer jewels is good enough for us! With new collections, new trends and the Olympic Games taking place in London; it is set to be a good month!

Celebration time also means the time to give the perfect gift to that someone special. If you’re searching for a gift to buy your partner, friend or family member for a celebration this August then we have some ideas that might help you choose that perfect gift!

Birthstone 

Peridot is the official birthstone for the month of August, a vivid green coloured gemstone with a hint of gold.
